Sustainability
Participation in Initiatives
We recognize the importance of environmental issues and strive to reduce risks by complying with laws and fulfilling our international responsibilities. Furthermore, we support international environmental initiatives and take actions to address climate change.
United Nations Global Compact
United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, bringing together the United Nations and the private sector (companies and organizations) with the aim of building a sound global society. In order to achieve a sustainable society with our stakeholders, we signed UNGC and became a participating company as of June 3, 2024. At the same time, we joined Global Compact Network Japan ("GCNJ"), which consists of Japanese and other companies that have signed UNGC.
TCFD
Since the Paris Agreement came into effect in 2016, there has been a rapid increase in the demand for companies to address climate change risks and pursue decarbonization. We recognize the impact of intensified abnormal weather events, such as typhoons and heavy rainfall, and the transition to a decarbonized society as "climate change risks". As one of our key priorities, we have set the objective of "contributing to the realization of a decarbonized and circular society" and are progressing towards achieving a low-carbon and circular society by utilizing our business expertise and creating new business opportunities.
In addition to the above initiatives, we recognize the importance of climate-related financial disclosure and have expressed support for the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.
CDP
We provide information disclosure regarding our environmental impact to CDP, an international NGO operating a global information disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, nations, and regions to manage environmental impacts.
Japan Climate Initiative
The Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) is a network to strengthen information dissemination and exchange of opinions among diverse entities other than national governments, such as corporations, local governments, NGO/NPOs, and others actively engaged in climate change countermeasures, in support of the declaration "joining the front line of the global push for decarbonization from Japan". Many organizations and companies are participating in this network with the policy of creating a movement that moves Japan as a whole toward the realization of a decarbonized society as required by the Paris Agreement.Through participation in the Japan Climate Initiative, we will accelerate our efforts to resolve climate change and environmental issues by utilizing information obtained from our network of various companies and local governments.
GX League
GX League is a forum for companies that aim to achieve sustainable growth from the present to the future society by taking on the challenge of GX (Green Transformation) with a view to achieving carbon neutrality and social change by 2050, and to collaborate with companies, government, and academia engaged in similar initiatives. The GX League also aims to create a positive cycle between the economy, the environment, and society, in which companies that take on the GX Challenge can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time being properly evaluated by external parties and achieving sustainable growth.
Through our participation in the GX League, we will promote our efforts to address climate change outside the company, and through dialogue and exchange through this initiative, we will work to resolve climate change and environmental issues.
Our response to and support of public environmental regulations
We support various laws, regulations, and policies related to climate change and energy usage at our domestic and overseas locations.
In Japan, we support the Law Concerning the Promotion of Measures to Cope with Global Warming (the Global Warming Countermeasures Law), the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy (the Energy Conservation Act), and the “Saitama Global Warming Countermeasures Promotion Ordinance and The Goal Setting Type System of Emission Permit Transactions”, where our headquarters annex is located, and are appropriately responding to these laws.
We are a specified business operator under the Energy Conservation Act. As such, we are obligated to reduce our energy consumption by an average of 1% per year. To achieve this goal, we are implementing various measures.
Please refer to the following page for our performance and details on our compliance with public regulations.
Japan Business Federation (Keidanren)
As of September 1, 2022, our company joined the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren).
Through our membership, we will actively engage in activities and collaborate with other member companies to realize the Japan Business Federation's FY2022 business policy of practicing sustainable capitalism. We strive to contribute to the Japan Business Federation, whose mission as a comprehensive economic organization is to “draw upon the vitality of corporations, individuals and local communities to support corporate activities which contribute to the self-sustaining development of the Japanese economy and improvement in the quality of life for the Japanese people”.
