Sustainability
Participation in Initiatives
We recognize the importance of environmental issues and strive to reduce risks by complying with laws and fulfilling our international responsibilities. Furthermore, we endorse international environmental initiatives and take action to address climate change.
United Nations Global Compact
United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, bringing together the United Nations and the private sector—companies and organizations—with the aim of building a sound global society. In order to achieve a sustainable society with our stakeholders, we signed UNGC and became a participating company on June 3, 2024. At the same time, we joined Global Compact Network Japan ("GCNJ"), which consists of Japanese and other companies that have signed UNGC.
TCFD
Since the Paris Agreement came into effect in 2016, there has been a rapid increase in the demand for companies to address climate change risks and pursue decarbonization. We recognize the impact of intensified abnormal weather events, such as typhoons and heavy rainfall, and the transition to a decarbonized society as "climate change risks."
As one of our key priorities, we have set the objective of "contributing to the realization of a circular and decarbonized society", and are working toward achieving this goal by utilizing our business expertise and creating new business opportunities.
In addition to the above initiatives, we also recognize the importance of climate-related financial disclosure and have expressed our support for the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.
Japan Climate Initiative
The Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) is a network designed to strengthen information sharing and opinion exchange among diverse non-state actors—such as companies, local governments, and NGOs/NPOs—that are actively working on climate action, in support of the declaration "joining the front line of the global push for decarbonization from Japan." Many organizations participate in this network with the aim of creating a nationwide movement toward realizing a decarbonized society, as required under the Paris Agreement. Through participation in the Japan Climate Initiative, we will accelerate our efforts to address climate change and environmental issues by utilizing insights gained through our network of companies and local governments.
We will continue working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations while also promoting financial products and services that help mitigate environmental impact.
Furthermore, on 7 November 2025, we endorsed the Japan Climate Action Summit 2025 Declaration: "Leading the Transition to a Decarbonized Society — We Will Never Stop —."
GX League
GX League is a forum for companies working toward sustainable growth by taking on the Green Transformation (GX) challenge, with a view to achieving carbon neutrality and driving social transformation by 2050, and for collaborating with companies, government, and academia engaged in similar initiatives.
The GX League aims to create a positive cycle among the economy, the environment, and society, enabling companies pursuing GX to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while being appropriately evaluated by external stakeholders and achieving sustainable growth.
Through our participation in the GX League, we will promote our climate change initiatives externally and, through dialogue and knowledge exchange within this framework, work to advance solutions to climate change and environmental issues.
Our Response to and Support for Public Environmental Regulations
We comply with and appropriately respond to various laws, regulations, and policies related to climate change and energy usage at our domestic and overseas locations.
In Japan, we comply with the Law Concerning the Promotion of Measures to Cope with Global Warming (the Global Warming Countermeasures Law), the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy (the Energy Conservation Act), and Saitama Prefecture's "Global Warming Countermeasures Promotion Ordinance" and the "Goal-Setting Emissions Trading System," which apply to the area where our head office annex is located, and we respond appropriately to these regulations. We are designated as a specified business operator under the Energy Conservation Act. As such, we are required to work toward reducing our energy consumption by an average of 1% per year. To achieve this goal, we implement a range of measures to reduce energy usage. Please refer to the following page for our performance and details regarding our compliance with these public regulations.
Japan Business Federation (Keidanren)
As of September 1, 2022, we joined the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren).
Through our membership, we will actively participate in initiatives and collaborate with fellow member companies to help realize the Japan Business Federation's fiscal year 2022 business policy of promoting sustainable capitalism. We aim to contribute to Keidanren, whose mission as a comprehensive economic organization is to draw upon the vitality of corporations, individuals, and local communities to support corporate activities that promote the self-sustaining development of the Japanese economy and improve the quality of life for the Japanese people.
